Following up on theirCoral Gumbo“光之轮”冷冻食品的珊瑚,是智慧向我们袭来h their new Coralific Delite, a prepared food which is designed to be fed two different ways. Despite its stoner name, Coralific Delite is an interesting take on feeding corals by allowing one product to be used either as a target or a broadcast food.
In one scenario, one part Coralific Delite can be mixed with two parts water to create a thick gel which is then target fed directly to hungry corals. The other way to feed Coralific Delite is by mixing one part of the food with four parts of water for broadcast feeding, which Hikari has unnecessarily trademarked “Squirt & Go”.
Hikari’s website for Coralific Delite is somewhat confusing as there on the package it says that it’s made for corals, but also that it’s a “floating food” and that it simulates “floating zooplankton” – does that confuse anyone else? There is no such thing as floating zooplankton but perhaps an imperfect mastery of the English language has confused “floating” with “free-floating” like the neutrally buoyant plankton that goes with the ocean currents, but not really on the actual surface.
Either way, the rise of commercially made coral foods by major players in the aquarium market is great for raising awareness that corals need to eat stuff, and do much better when they are offered a varied diet just all of our marine aquarium animals. [Hikari]
