Innovative Marine is fixin’ to launch their new premium line of all in one nano aquariums called the Fusion Nano, and with it they are setting out to improve the current generation of Skkye LED lights. The old Skkye LED fixtures, especially the clamp-on versions for use with the Nuvo tanks, are getting a a little long in the tooth and are ready for an overhaul of look and features.
The next generation of Skkye LED lights have a simplified and much more polished appearance with improved three watt LEDs in two colors. The foot print and housing of the Skkye LED lights are much more squared off and angular in their edges, complimenting the new, modern angled lines of the Fusion and Fusion Nano aquariums themselves.
Meanwhile under the hood of the Skkye lights, the one-color-fits-all LEDs have been replaced with an even ratio of 10,000 Kelvin white LEDs and 456nm blue LEDs, spread across six diodes. Gone are the secondary channel of blue indicator moonlight LEDs and with a stated current of 600mA, the 18w Skkye LED light actually only consumes about 12 watts of power.
Regardless of output, what’s tickling our fancy the most right now is that Innovative Marine has released some images of small reef tanks aquascaped with thoughtful, familiar reef life, and the look of the colors rendition of the new Skkye LED lights looks perfect for beginner and intermediate corals.
The Innovative Marine Skkye 18w LED light is specially designed to clamp on to rimless tanks like the Fusion Nano aquariums and as such will not be compatible with tanks that have a brace on their edge. While sophisticated lights with multichannel LEDs and power user controls may be intimidating for reef aquarium newbies, the Skkye 18 LED keeps is simple with a single electrical cord to power the alternating LED colors.
