Schuran is an established crafter of fine acrylic aquarium equipment and tanks. Abyzz is a newer company making high performance controllable water pumps. Together Schuran and Abyzz have collaborated to create, or rather recreate, a classic protein skimmer design, venturi and all.
The jumbo Berlin skimmer is trimmed in blue accents in the Schuran model and orange accents in the Abyzz model, both of which stand approximately three feet tall and actually represent thesmallestAbyzz-powered Schuran蛋白质回收船对甲型肝炎e made. The functions of the new Berlin skimmer are all nearly identical to the original down to the system of inner tubes creating a “triple pass” of the incoming water, the small turbulence reducing square and the general proportions.
Thankfully, Schuran employs a system of four magnets between the skimmer cup and body creating a very novel way to create an easy method of servicing the skimmer cup while still keeping the assembly watertight. It would have been very satisfying to see the new Berlin protein skimmer in action to find out if a modern build and pump could make the classic design perform on par with our best needle wheel skimmers.
The two examples displayed at InterZoo 2014 were some of the first built, very recently, so possible release date and pricing will have to wait. In the meantime, someone at Abyzz or Schuran shoudl fire one of these up and send us a link because we still want to see the shape of that classic protein skimmer cloud.
