Greg Stone stresses the importance of Marine Sanctuaries in ocean recovery

We all know that our oceans are in declining health due to pollution, overfishing and climate change. But most of us are not sure how to battle the problems facing the ocean. Inthis TED videoGreg Stone points out the importance of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the recovery of our oceans. As an example Greg describes his journey at the Phoenix Islands, which experienced a bleaching episode due to prolonged high temperatures. Because the area lacks the strain of overfishing and pollution, the local reefs recover amazingly fast, “just like a human has a better change of recovery battling one disease instead of three,” as Greg Stone puts it.
