Pseudanthias leucozonus, the white bar anthias, is an extremely rare species of anthias with some breathtaking colors. Being normally restricted to the southern seas of Japanese waters, this large batch of tenPseudanthias leucozonuswas actually sourced from Bali. Although many one-of-a-kind specimens of rare anthias species often arrive as tiny slivers of their full grown potential, this large school ofP. leucozonusare actually approaching six inches, and their robust size seems to have made them settle in to aquarium life as well as you might expect from a pink square anthias,P. pleurotaenia. One specimen of white bar anthias in the background seems to be swimming against an unbalanced swim bladder, a common ailment of many anthias, but it looks like most of theP. leucozonusare swimming normally.
These white bar anthias were imported byGreenwich Aquariaand they’ve been doing everything they can to make sure these beautiful anthias acclimate well to aquarium life. We’ve been informed that theP. leucozonusare eating with gusto, and they’ll be under observation and conditioning for at least another week before they are offered up for sale. When they are ready, you’ll have to pony up at least $450 per fish, as this is one of the first times we’ve ever seen this species being offered for sale in the US. Four bills would be a lot of coin to spend on a puny nano fish but we can think of many large reef tanks that would be perfect for stocky, flashy fish like these white bar anthias,Pseudanthias leucozonus.
