The G2 Maxspect LED aquarium light is now available to North Americans and like many other second generation LED lights, the G2 Maxspect is bringing some serious game. Besides the fact that the G2 Maxspect incorporate multiple channels of custom intensity control, every single LED rests on an individual circuit board which is hot swappable. That feature alone makes the G2 Maxspect theLite-Briteof LED lights. Aside from the fact that all models will be using SemiLEDs and optional upgrade to Cree LEDs, some units of the G2 Maxspect line will also offer a white 30 watt multichip LED which is just as hot swappable as the other LEDs, although only one color exists in this format for now. It’s nice to see that the G2 Maxspect will not only be bringing some new polish to it’s exterior, but also some ground breaking changes to what we think of as an LED light. SemiLEDsis a U.S. based company that designs high powered LEDs with their most efficient I-core series producing up to 120 lumens/watt. Maxspect states that “SemiLEDs LED chips offer the best cost to performance ratio, providing 90% the luminous output as Cree XP-G chip, but at the 25% the cost of Cree LED chips.” The hot swappable three watt LEDs are available in blue, white, violet and UVA and should run about $12 to $15 and the 30 watt multichip will also be a reasonable cost.
