After ten years since the first time this species was collected,Blue Harborhas once again obtained the ultimate deep living butterflyfish,Prognathodes basabei. This Deepwater Hawaiian endemic was originally collected in 1998 and it was known for a long time as the “Orange Margin” butterflyfish until it was officially described by Pyle and Chave.Prognathodes basabeiis one of the holy grail of rare butterfly fish collectors as there are only a handful of people who are even capable of diving to 460 feet, let alone going to those depths to catch rare fish. The extreme depth range of this fish ensures that it will fetch a princely sum and we expect this fish to be priced well over $6000.
