Apparently, a run of the metal shafts which is included in the modification kit is experiencing some accelerated corrosion which is causing the shafts to break or worse. In some cases the corrosion is causing the impeller magnet to catch the spindle which is turning the shaft into a drill. Some aquarists are reporting that the shaft has bored straight through their MaxiJet pump with no issues other than a ruined pump. Unfortunately, at least one of our aquarist friends is experiencing a complete reef meltdown after his SureFlo modded MaxiJet completed melted within his tank releasing all kinds of unknowable toxins from burned epoxy and plastic along with an unhealthy jolt of electrical current. AlgaeFree the makers of the SureFlo kit have acknowledged the problem with the corroding shafts and they are sending out replacement shafts by request. If you are using a SureFlo kit we suggest that you inspect the metal shaft for signs of corrosion and keep a close eye on the pump for any signs of abnormal operation.
