The company that brought us theRazor,Gyre, and Aeraqua Duo has added a new, larger skimmer model to its Jump, value equipment range. Called the MJ-SK800, the 800 model shares all of the features of the MJ-SK400 but with a larger body and increased air intake capacity, enabling a recommendation for 900-liter (238g) tanks with high fish load, and 2700 liter (713g) tanks with a low biological load.
Maxspect doesn’t do “value” gear like other manufacturers do, and the MJ-SK800 packs more features than many premium skimmer models including dual intakes, dual needle wheels, a DC pump with feed mode and start delay, precision front dial, inbuilt bubble trap, and a novel integrated air silencer.
But it’s that unique dual intake, dual needle wheel patented design that sets the Jump SK andAeraqua Duoapart from the rest of the protein skimmer pack, enabling even greater air bubble miniaturization inside the chamber and greater contact time.
The new 800 model states a modest 800lph of air versus 600lph for the 400 Jump skimmer. This is quite conservative considering the tank volumes its manufacturer claim it’s suitable for, (and versus other skimmer makes and models.) But it’s what you do with that air that counts and Maxspect have done their utmost to maximize every opportunity once it’s drawn into the skimmer body.

Bigger everything
The MJ-SK800 draws more power, more water, has a larger footprint and deeper recommended operating depth than the smaller MJ-SK400. It’s physically larger than the premium Aeraqua Duo AD600 too, making it a definite contender for use on big tanks, but small budgets.
Like all theJump equipment rangethis skimmer looks great with its modern, pipeless design, oval body shape, and white, black, and orange livery. The Maxspect MJ-SK800 is a definite, cabinet doors open, doors off kind of skimmer that’s well worthy of an Instagram photo on its own.
Little has been released on the MJ-SK400’s bigger brother so far, even by Maxspect, so we can’t share any pricing or possible release dates at this stage.
